May
use submarines or midget submarines to infiltrate Special Forces.
May
use helicopters to infiltrate Special Forces. Black, unmarked helicopters may
be used to fly in at night. Helicopter pilots wear night vision goggles. Lights
on the helicopter are cut off when approaching the target area. Commandos may rappel down on ropes from the helicopter, jump off the helicopter onto the
ground or into the water, while the helicopter hovers above. If jumping into
the water, the commandos may be wearing SCUBA gear. The helicopter may actually
land, drop off the Special Forces team, and take off again.
Special
Forces may be flown by plane over enemy territory and parachute.

Engineers (Sappers)
The
objective of the sappers is to penetrate enemy defenses and inflict maximum
casualties, destroy enemy equipment, ordnance, and installations and then
withdraw. Sapper
attacks are not meant to seize and occupy territory.
Careful reconnaissance and planning are done before any attack.
The
terrain is analyzed and all possible avenues of approach are carefully
reviewed.
Enemy
patrol patterns are studied.
Listening
posts are plotted and studied.
Enemy
weapon positions are plotted.
Flares,
mines, and sensors are located.
Obstacles
and defenses are sketched.
The time
required to breach the defenses are estimated.
A sand
table may be used in the planning of the attack and briefing of the sappers.
The
attack may be rehearsed.
The
attack may be supported by mortar or rocket fire so the enemy will take cover.
While the
enemy takes cover from the mortar and rocket fire, the sapper teams infiltrate.
Wire
cutters, ladders, bangalore torpedoes, etc. are used to breach enemy defenses.
Once
inside the base the sappers reek havoc on the enemy from the inside out using
satchel charges, hand grenades, RPG's, and small arms.
Each
sapper team is assigned a specific target to attack. Aircraft and vehicles are
destroyed. Satchel charges and grenades are tossed into enemy Command Post
(CP), bunkers, etc.
Different
colored flares can be used to signal the commencement of the attack, the
withdrawal, the request for reinforcements, etc.
Sappers
can turn claymore mines backwards in the direction of enemy fighting positions
along the perimeter defense.
A truck
bomb can be driven up to the front gate of the enemy base and detonated. The
truck may be a captured enemy truck or may be disguised as an enemy truck. Used to breach enemy facilities or used as a diversion.
Enemy
helicopters and aircraft can be hit with RPG's at close range, or sappers can
toss grenades and satchel charges on them or inside them. Inside the engine or
cockpit should be sufficient. It may be necessary to remove engine plugs or
raise the canopy of the aircraft.
Some
sappers can be trained to locate large enemy weapons on the base and turn them
against the enemy.
Some
sappers can be trained to infiltrate an enemy base and operate enemy tanks and
armored vehicles. They can either drive off with them or turn them against the
enemy.
Sappers
can seek out enemy artillery and place explosive charges on the guns.

Naval Special Forces
Combat Divers
Combat Boarding
with the objective of destroying, capturing, or commandeering the enemy vessel.
Climb the anchor chain of an enemy vessel to gain access.
Underwater Demolitions
Clear underwater obstacles and sea mines.
Work in shallow water only.
May not be able to afford scuba gear. May simply wear goggles, flippers, and water proof watches. In this case, the divers simply hold their breath while under water, and breath when they surface. Can carry diving knives for combat, cutting nets, etc.
The diver examines the obstacle under water, then surfaces and records the type of obstacle and depth of the obstacle using a measuring cord.
The data is recorded on a water proof pad. A simple picture can be drawn of the obstacle along with how many obstacles there are of that type and the depth the obstacles are at.
Measurement is made with the aid of a long measuring cord with a weight on the end. The weight sinks down to the bottom. Numbers of measurement are on the cord.
Plant explosives on enemy obstacles.
Cut underwater nets at the entrances to enemy harbors. Divers should beware of sensors on the nets.
Extraction
Commando divers can swim up next to the enemy ship and plant limpet mines on the hull of the vessel.
Naval commandos can use a small boat or raft to approach the enemy vessel and fire an armor piercing rocket at the ships hull or plant a limpet mine or plastic explosives.
Use sonar, radar, and electronic sensors to detect enemy infiltration.
Once detected, Counter Divers can be used to kill enemy divers. Can disarm or prevent enemy divers from planting bombs.
Cut sea mines chained and anchored to the floor bed. Once cut, the mines float upward striking an enemy vessel.

Anti-Units
Anti-units can be created with a focus on the things that give the enemy a decisive advantage in order to counter them. Specialized units , utilizing special weapons and tactics can be
created to counter enemy weapons, vehicles, troops, etc.

Focus on the enemy's weak spots or weaknesses. Create specialized
units to attack or exploit these weaknesses.
Counter Commando Units
Counter commando or anti-commando units are forces who are
specially trained to track and kill enemy commandos or Special Forces. Training
includes Basic Infantry training, tracking, map reading, small arms, etc.
Counter commandos may also utilize guard dogs, tracking dogs, surveillance
equipment, and electronic sensors to guard sensitive areas and track enemy
commandos.
Ambush enemy unit. Fire a barrage of RPG rounds and grenades at the enemy unit then follow up with assault rifles and machine guns.
Historical examples include North Vietnamese counter-reconnaissance teams that tracked US special forces along the Ho Chi Minh trail.

Anti-Tank Hunter/Killer Units
Hunter/Killer units are trained to hunt and destroy enemy
tanks. A team consists of one or two men
armed with shoulder fired anti-tank rockets launchers to engage enemy armor, a
sniper and a machine gunner to engage enemy infantry. The team may also include
a man with a shoulder fired surface-to-air missile launcher.
Specialized teams armed with anti-tank guided missiles can also be deployed.
Anti-Aircraft Commando Unit
A small light infantry unit equipped with shoulder fired
surface-to-air missile launchers, machine guns, mortars, grenade launchers,
hand grenades, etc., sneaks behind enemy lines to engage enemy aircraft. Enemy
aircraft can be attacked during take-off, landing or while they are grounded.
The unit may even be equipped with some type of portable radar. The supreme
objective of an anti-aircraft commando unit would be a successful raid on an
enemy airbase with the destruction of numerous enemy aircraft and/or
facilities. Smaller actions would include shooting down an enemy helicopter or low flying plane, launching a mortar attack on enemy
airfield or landing strip, etc.
Spy Hunter or Spy Killer Unit
Counter Intelligence unit that specializes in finding and killing
enemy spies like that of the old Soviet SMERSH program.
