Military Desertion

Military Desertion and Defection
Going AWOL (Absent Without Leave)

Entire military units may decide to desert or defect during a rebellion or civil war.

It may only be a few military personnel who decide to desert and join the resistance. In this case the soldier or soldiers should find the right opportunity to abandon his unit and leave to join friendly forces. The soldiers should attempt to take all their weapons and equipment with them if possible.

A network may be formed to help soldiers deserting for ethical reasons or defecting to join the popular rebellion. In either case, safe houses can be established throughout the nation or even in a bordering nation.

Defecting pilots could get permission to land their aircraft at a base belonging to the opposing force they are defecting to or even a neutral nation.
